Senior Commissioning Editor – Illustrated Non-Fiction

Hybrid
Mid-Level
Salary:
On application

Think Selection are looking for an experienced and commercially-minded Senior Commissioning Editor to join a leading illustrated publisher in a newly created role.

The publisher has a great reputation for innovative illustrated co-edition publishing across subject areas that include science, natural history, arts and popular culture. Their books are commissioned and developed for global markets, and regularly appear on the lists of top trade and academic publishers in the UK and US. This new role is designed to support the list’s next stage of development.

Working closely with the Publisher, you’ll take the lead in conceiving and developing standout book concepts with international appeal. You’ll have space to shape your own areas of the list and build lasting relationships with publishing clients and authors. This is a market-facing role that would suit someone with a good sense of design and a sharp commercial instinct—someone who understands what works across multiple markets and enjoys presenting their ideas to stakeholders.

You’ll be part of a collaborative creative team of editors and designers. You’ll develop the pitches, lead on author commissioning, and stay close to your projects through to publication, working with an in-house editorial and design team.

The successful candidate will bring proven experience commissioning illustrated non-fiction, strong editorial and visual judgement, and the confidence to represent projects to clients. Experience working on co-edition titles, or with international publishing partners, would be particularly relevant.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in the South East of England. A competitive salary is on offer which will depend on your experience, plus excellent company benefits.
