Think Selection is recruiting an Editorial Director for a highly regarded independent publishing company with an excellent reputation for publishing thought-provoking, commercially successful books.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished trade non-fiction commissioning editor to take a senior role in developing an established and ambitious publishing programme, acquiring exceptional authors and compelling new projects with strong commercial potential.

You’ll commission non-fiction in subjects that could include current affairs, social issues, popular culture and psychology. With responsibility for developing a distinctive and successful literary and commercial list, you’ll identify promising authors and ideas through literary agents and direct approaches, build lasting relationships with writers and develop books that appeal to substantial readerships.

The role combines creative editorial judgement with commercial responsibility, from evaluating proposals and negotiating acquisitions to developing manuscripts and championing titles through publication. You’ll work closely with colleagues in editorial, sales, marketing, publicity and rights, contributing to the continued success and development of the non-fiction programme.

We are looking for someone with a successful track record in trade non-fiction commissioning, excellent editorial judgement and a strong understanding of the market. You’ll be confident in identifying books with significant potential, developing relationships with authors and agents, and combining intellectual ambition with commercial appeal.

This is a particularly attractive opportunity for a commercially astute commissioning editor who wants to make a substantial contribution to the publishing programme of a respected publishing company.

A competitive salary is offered, depending on experience, together with company benefits. The position offers hybrid working, with a minimum of three days per week based at the company's London offices.
