A highly regarded independent book publishing company has asked Think Selection to recruit a Commissioning Editor or Senior Commissioning Editor to drive the commissioning and list strategy for an established Art list.

Based in London, you’ll develop a programme that includes trade crossover titles, scholarly works, monographs and co-publications.

You’ll plan the list and identify areas for new publishing and commission books with a clear readership and strong commercial potential. You’ll originate ideas, develop proposals with authors, and assess submissions to build a high-quality programme.

The role also includes partnership publishing. You’ll build and maintain relationships with museums, galleries and academic institutions, developing projects alongside commissioning your own titles.

You’ll assess the commercial viability of projects at acquisition stage and stay involved as they progress, providing editorial input where needed and ensuring each project develops clearly from the outset.

You’ll keep up to date with developments in the Art market and use this to inform your commissioning decisions. You’ll also work with colleagues in sales, marketing and production to bring books with an international appeal, to market.

This role will suit an experienced Art book editor with a strong understanding of the art book market, sound commercial judgement, and the ability to originate and develop projects.

A competitive salary and company benefits are on offer to the successful candidate.
